WINDHOEK – Kaizen Football Academy, Young African and Flamingoes secured places in the 2014/15 Southern Stream First Division season after emerging from the five-team round-robin play-offs at the J. Stephanus Stadium in Keetmanshoop over the weekend.
Kaizen Football Academy (KFA) from the Khomas region and also quarterfinalist of the 2014 Bidvest Namibia Cup started off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Omaheke region’s Young African on Saturday, while Flamingoes from the Hardap region were 2-1 winners over Karas region’s Brazilie.
Brazilie then demolished Erongo region’s Northern Stars 3-0 while KFA beat Brazilie 3-2 in a tightly contested encounter at the J. Stephanus Stadium.
Young African than defeated Northern Stars 1-0 while KFA returned to the pitch to thrash Flamingoes 4-1 to finally secure their place in the first division for next season.
On Sunday, KFA lost 3-2 to Northern Stars, the latter’s first victory of the play-offs while Young African managed a nail-baiting 1-0 victory over Brazilie to confirm their place for first division football. Flamingoes capped off a great weekend of entertaining football with a convincing 6-3 victory over Northern Stars.
In the end, Windhoek-based KFA, Young African and the toast of Rehoboth, Flamingoes, in that order, advanced to the Southern Stream First Division for 2014/15.
The three sides replace relegated clubs Celtics from Swakopmund and Young Beauties from Keetmanshoop and Rebels who also won a place in the promotional play-offs to the new 16-team Namibia Premier league (NPL), together with Southern Stream First Division winners Citizens FC.
The North East and North West First Divisions promotional play-offs are anticipated to take place in two weeks time as the Namibia Football Association (NFA) is yet to secure venues for the play-offs.
