KEETMANSHOOP – The residents of //Kharas region have paid tribute to Founding President Sam Nujoma, who died on Saturday in Windhoek.

Governor Aletha Frederick extended their deepest condolences to the Nujoma family and the Namibian nation.

“As the Founding Father and first president of our republic, his legacy will continue to guide us in our pursuit of unity and progress, and on behalf of the residents of the //Kharas region, we stand in solidarity with his family and all Namibians during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.

Joining her was Swapo //Kharas coordinator Matthew Mumbala, who described Nujoma as a straightforward person who never feared standing up for Namibia and her best interests.

“Sometimes it was harsh words, but when you listened again, you will find it was actually for the best of his people,” Mumbala said.

Mumbala also highlighted the fact that cadres like Nujoma made it possible for many Namibians to study abroad at universities in Cuba, China and Russia, of whom most are filling prominent roles in today’s life. Meanwhile, Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company CEO Fluksman Samuehl said, “The LWDC hereby joins the Namibian nation as we mourn the death of our Founding President.”

Samuehl added: “As a Namibian leader with a long-term vision, he was clear, and supported practical initiatives to revive the once-abandoned harbour town of Lüderitz.

This has culminated in the birth of the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company, which plays a major role in the economic development sphere of Lüderitz and that of the //Kharas region today.”
