The Khomas region were crowned 2024 National Schools Sport Union (NSSU) Athletics Championships after winning a total of 88 medals over the weekend.
The competition was held at the Independence Stadium on Friday and Saturday, and saw all 14 regions competing for top honours.
After two days of exciting competition, Khomas won 40 gold, 28 silver and 20 bronze medals.
Otjozondjupa claimed second place with 40 medals, which were 14 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze. Hardap came in third place with 39 medals, which are 13 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze.
Erongo took fourth place with 37 medals, including 12 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze, while //Kharas claimed fifth place with 28 medals, which is nine gold, 10 silver and nine bronze.
Oshikoto won 16 medals – six gold, four silver and six bronze, earning them sixth place.
Ohangwena claimed seventh place with 15 medals, which are five gold, five silver and five bronze.
Omusati took eighth place with 23 medals, including three gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze.
Omahake ranked ninth on the medal standing with 15 medals, which are three gold, five silver and seven bronze, while Kunene took 10th place with 10 medals, including three gold, five silver and two bronze.
Kavango West, Oshana and Kavango East took the last three positions on the medal standings, with Kavango West winning six medals, and Kavango East and Oshana both earning five medals each.
NSSU national coordinator Roger Kambatuku told Nampa in an interview on Monday he was pleased with the competition this year.
“We are happy that all the regions came prepared, and the event was very competitive. Going forward, we expect all the regions to prepare even better and come give Khomas a run for their money,” he said.
Kambatuku added that he was particularly impressed with the Kavango regions, who brought more than 50 athletes to the competition for the first time.
