A Namibian U/17 Khomas Regional team is gearing up for the Canal Cities Men’s Elite Football tournament, set to take place in Yanzhou City, China, from 20 to 28 October. 

This prestigious event will feature not only Namibia and Taiwan, but also six teams from the Yanzhou, creating an exciting and competitive atmosphere for young athletes. 

As anticipation builds, the team has been supported financially by the Khomas Regional Council, Governor of the Khomas Region Laura McLeod-Katjirua and the Ministry of Sport. 

This tournament represents a significant opportunity for the Khomas Regional team to showcase their talent on an international stage, fostering sportsmanship among young players from different cultures. 

Leading the Khomas regional team is head coach Ri s to Shikomba, supported by assistant coach Bertus Bock. Shikomba expressed confidence in his players, stating that they have been in rigorous training for over a month, focusing not only on their physical fitness, but also on strategic plays and teamwork. “The players are fit and ready for action,” he said, highlighting their dedication and hard work. The coaching staff has emphasised the importance of mental preparation as well, encouraging the players to approach the tournament with a winning mindset. “We are looking forward to the competition, and are determined to bring home the trophy,” Shikomba added, reflecting the team’s aspirations and ambition. 

The tournament provides a unique platform for the young Namibian players to gain valuable exp e r i e nce and expo su re . Competing against teams from Taiwan and local squads in Yanzhou, they will have the chance to learn from different playing styles and strategies, which can enhance their skills and understanding of the game.
