WINDHOEK – Namibia’s leading boxing academy, the much-adored MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias & Fitness Academy, has once again lived up to its motto of “Taking Boxing to the People”.
The popular boxing academy went back to its roots when it successfully hosted the MTC Nestor Sunshine Cup at the A. Shipena school hall in Katutura last weekend.
With only 13 of the 16 regions in attendance, Khomas entered the highest number of participants, to be precise 10 amateur boxers, in different weight categories with all of them reaching the finals.
Boxers from the Khomas Boxing Club scooped 5 of 9 available gold medals combined with 5 silver and 2 bronze medals to complete a successful evening for Khomas while only one of their members failed to clear the hurdle in the preliminary rounds.
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) alongside Nampol, Erongo and Otjozondjupa regions shared the remaining medals at stake (4 gold, 4 silver) – leaving the highly competitive hosts Khomas, to be proudly crowned MTC Team 2014 champions while KBF boxer Shilunga Taaru was deservedly crowned the best fighter of the tournament on the night.
Organisers called on business companies and individuals to assist the academy in kind or financially adding the amateur boxers were in dire need of the following items; water bottles, towels, sport bags, team outfits as in tracksuits, blazers, boxing shoes, shorts, vests, caps and t-shirts.
