… Van Schalkwyk seems unstoppable
WINDHOEK – Codie van Schalkwyk can seal the overall win in the Kia tennis ranking this coming weekend when the 11-year-old and his opposition take to the tennis courts of the Windhoek High School (WHS) for the second last tournament of the year. The event is once again hosted by the Pro-Tennis Academy.
Log leader Van Schlakwyk currently sits at the top of the ranking with an astonishing
3 750 points, while his closest rival, Oliver Diggle, is already 675 points adrift. Another win by van Schalkwyk and the title will be his.
Meanwhile, the race for the 2nd place has become a 4-way contest between Diggle,
Wylon Wentzel, Connor van Schalkwyk and Delvin Losper. Just a mere 150 points separates 2nd placed Diggle and 5th placed Losper, while Veri Hinda remains in the hunt to mount a serious challenge, should things go her way.
Points for the ranking are calculated on a 12-month rolling basis representing the performance of players from last year August up to July this year. The series consists of 9 tournaments with the 6th tournament of the season slated for this weekend that sees players taking part in one of five categories determined by their skill level as they seek to collect points towards the ranking.
Action in the mini and midi categories gets underway on Friday afternoon while matches in the beginner, intermediate and advanced groups are scheduled for Saturday.
