Kilimanjaro to scout talent in Oshakati

Leading amateur boxing stable MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club will host another boxing bonanza this weekend.

The event will take place at Iipumbu Secondary School in Oshakati, and feature around 30 bouts.

Promoter and founder of Kilimanjaro, Joseph Bernhard, stressed the importance of the event for the Oshana region and the up-and-coming boxers hoping to make their mark.

“We are trying to put together regional teams that will represent Oshana at the upcoming national boxing championship later this year. We also have an opportunity to host the youth games, and boxers will be needed to lead the region to glory. This is the opportunity for us to select the best boxers.”

He added that the bonanza will feature boxers from his stable as well as from surrounding regions, constituencies and towns. “Fans should expect a mouthwatering event. We have over 100 boxers from various regions in the northern part of the country. We expect to uncover new talent at this event, and we hope this is just the beginning of something good in our four ‘O’ regions. We urge all the fans to come in numbers and support their future champions,” he said.

One of the boxers who will take part in the upcoming bonanza, Marcus Shonena, expressed his readiness and excitement for the event. “I think this is a great opportunity. I have always wanted to fight on a bigger stage, and finally, I will have the chance to showcase my talent. I am a big fan of some of the biggest names in Namibian boxing, and hopefully, I will achieve something like that and represent Namibia outside the country,” he added.
