Following the recently concluded regional council and local authority elections, councillors from various constituencies have taken office, with some newly elected and others re-elected. New Era will continue to profile councillors over the coming weeks as detailed below: 

Ohangwena region 

The Ohangwena region, one of Namibia’s most populous regions, has officially entered a new governance term following the swearing-in of its 12 regional councillors, each representing one of the region’s constituencies. 

Ohangwena region has a population of 337 729 people, making it the second most populated region in the country. The population is largely rural, with over 85% of residents living in villages and settlements, while the remaining population resides in urban centres such as Eenhana, Oshikango and Okongo. 

The region covers an estimated 10,703 square kilometres, with agriculture and cross-border trade forming the backbone of local livelihoods. 

Ohangwena is divided into 12 constituencies, namely Eenhana, Endola, Engela, Epembe, Ohangwena, Okongo, Omulong a , Omundaungilo, Ondobe, Ongenga, Oshikango and Oshikunde. 

Each constituency elects one councillor to the Ohangwena Regional Council. -wakudumoauleria@gmail.com
