The Kunene Regional Development Profile, which is a strategic document depicting current service delivery regional strengths and the region’s economic performance, challenges, constraints and opportunities for development, was officially launched in Outjo on November 24.

The document was launched by Katuutire Kaura, advisor to the Kunene governor, on behalf of Governor Angelika Muharukua.

Kaura noted that development areas highlighted in the profile are closely linked to President Hage Geingob’s call to eradicate poverty in the nation and develop the country as a whole.

During Kaura’s address he alluded to the region’s critical development areas, including rural infrastructural development, poverty and hunger, unemployment (especially among the youth), regional economic growth, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, domestic or gender-based violence and illegal poaching.

At the same occasion, the political leadership of the region also launched the region’s brand strategy, whereby the Kunene Region is marketed as the ‘Ultimate Frontier’ as a place to visit, a place to develop, and a place to live and invest in.

Also speaking at the launch, second advisor to the Governor, J //Khamuseb, said that the region couldn’t reach its full potential if its people do not work as team.

He said Kunene inhabitants should organize themselves and develop Kunene to her full potential.
He also alluded to the importance of expediting development, or risk missing potential revenue from tourism and investments through foreign and national donors.

In addition, Kaura encouraged all stakeholders of the development profile to “own this document and use it as a guide to addressing our regional needs, with the view to a prosperous region”.
