A total of 50 golfers teed off at the Bank Windhoek Namibia Amateur Ladies Strokeplay Championship, at the Omeya golf course south of Windhoek last weekend.

Local golfers were joined by golfers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Botswana in the competition that was contested over 36 holes in the Open, Closed, Stableford and Senior sections.

All international and local golfers entered for the Open, while the Closed Championship was reserved for locals only.
Demi Flanagan was the leader after the opening round with a 3 under par 69. Namibia’s Caro Els scored a 72, Cara Gorlei of South Africa carded 73 while compatriot Swanelle de Lange carded 78.

On Sunday, Gorlei played an excellent 70, but both Flanagan and Els held on to their lead by scoring 71 each.
South African golfer Flanagan was crowned Open Champion while Els won the Closed Championship.

The Stableford section was won by Suzette Vermeulen of Namibia on 67 points with accolades in the Senior division going to Gaby Adams of Namibia.

At the prize-giving function, organisers applauded Bank Windhoek for its continuous involvement and contribution to ladies golf over the past 25 years.
