WINDHOEK – It’s a do or die moment for Paulus “the Rock” Ambunda, when the veteran Namibian professional boxer climbs in the ring to stake a claim for another shot at a world title.
Trainer and fast emerging match maker Imms Moses, oozes confidence ahead of the bout and believes his boxer has what it takes to silence the critics including those who might be questioning his credibility and ambitions to take aim at a world title whilst in the twilight of his boxing career.
A former world champion, the Namibian 34, squares off against the unbeaten homeboy Muhammad “the Chosen Wan” Ridhwan for the vacant IBO Super Bantamweight World title at the Marina Bay Sands Luxury Hotel, tomorrow night.
Moses: “The preparation are done and dusted, we had great training camp and I personally believe our team has done everything we were supposed to do.
Make no mistake, this fight is very important for Ambunda and Namibia at large – it’s a massive opportunity that was thrown at him at this crucial stage of his boxing career to fight for another world title, certainly a dream for any boxer worth their salt.”
The highly motivated youthful boxing trainer adds that Ambunda is currently in the greatest shape of his life.
“He is ready and will surely look good in the fight – come Saturday night, he is well conditioned and I must give credit to our conditioning coach Martin Angombe, a very dedicated young man who has done a great job in the last two months of preparations.
“I would also like to applaud my trusted assistant Nicky Natangwe, the two of us have been working closely hand in glove to make sure that the Rock, aka “EL Jesus” is in tiptop shape,” brags Moses tongue in cheek during an electronic interview with New Era Sport from his hotel room in Singapore,” said Moses.
“We are having a good time here in Singapore, apart from few trash talking for Ridhwan but that’s part of the sport of boxing, anyway nothing he said worries us because our focus is on the belt and we will definitely take it off Ridhwan. I’m appealing to all Namibians to keep us in their prayers as we embark to get the job done.”
The immaculately dressed internationally acclaimed boxing match maker could not resist showering praises for Ambunda’s sparring partners, Desert Storm and Caddy Hamalwa, for keeping the world champion-in-waiting on his toes.
“The pair exposed him to tough sparring sessions during the preparation and I would also like to extend gratitude to my staff at the AC Boxing & Entertainment.”
Ambunda goes into the fight of his life boasting an impressive resume of 26 wins and two losses from 28 fights in the paid ranks with 11 of his astonishing victories finishing inside the distance.
On the other hand, his Singaporean opponent Ridhwan, is the incumbent holder of multiple international titles including the IBU World title,
