OKAHANDJA – Former Otjinene constituency c ounc i l l or Adol f Kangootui, who died on Sunday in Windhoek following a short illness, has been described as a highly-principled person, who was never afraid to speak truth to power.
Kangootui, whose passing was confirmed by a family member, was a Nudo stalwart, who served as the Otjinene constituency councillor from 2010 until 2015.
He was ins t rument al in spearheading various development projects within the constituency.
Nudo secretary general Josef Kauandenge yesterday hailed Kangootui as someone who dedicated his life and youth to the attainment of peace, justice and the socioeconomic development of Namibia.
“The late Kangootui will be remembered as an astute orator of note, a man who mastered the queen’s language like no other and he was highly principled too. And if need be, he was always willing to stand alone in the face of adversity, and he was an independent thinker of note as well. He never compromised his principles. Most importantly, Kangootui will be remembered as a Nudo councillor for the Otjinene constituency at the time when Otjinene needed a vibrant and hardworking councillor, and he was equal to the task,” he said.
Kauandenge added that Nudo has particularly lost someone who shaped and added value to the internal dynamics of the party, especially on issues that affect local communities within the various Nudo strongholds and the country at large.
“He will be remembered for his immense contribution towards the attainment of our independence; hence, he was recognised by government as a war veteran. Nudo has lost a stalwart and a giant in our internal party politics. He won’t be replaced easily. We just hope he will be afforded a dignified funeral that befits his contribution during the liberation struggle of our country,” he added.
