WINDHOEK-Namibian young performer, Kondja Lungameni, popularly known as Laukey de prince is not new to the local arts industry. The artist, who hails from the Omaheke region, is well-known to the local music and film industry. His love for music and films started when he was a school boy performing occasionally around northern schools and Omaheke trade fair events. His real break in the arts industry came in 2011 when he moved to the Capital and met well-known artist, Young Trev, who introduced him to Optimistic Media Group (OMG). Before signed with OMG, he featured in a movie titled Okasikili. In the film, Laukey acts as a school boy who goes on a dangerous school trip and has to find his way out. In 2013, Laukey released a song titled Kunda, complimented by a video and dedicated to those who passed on.

The video was shot and directed by Bloskid and received massive national airplays on local radio and television stations. He later released a Kwaito song Mbafwetu, which was ranked number one on Radio Energy 100 top 10 Kwaito countdown for four consecutive weeks. Currently Laukey is busy with his debut album, Mada Gascar, which is planned for release and launch in Gobabis, Windhoek and Mariental later this year. One of Laukey’s music video, Natango, featuring Jay K, has been on the top 10 One Africa Television, YO music video countdown programme since last month.

The hit song (Natango) was part of the Radio Energy 100 top 10 Kwaito countdown hits and it took the song only three weeks to be part of the top five (5) on the Kwaito countdown recently. Laukey says he is hard at work and is encouraging corporations within the entertainment business to support local artists. He adds that he is inspired by established local musicians who are being recognised outside Namibian boarders. He is optimistic that he will act and perform on bigger stages with international artists, actors and actresses. Laukey has done some collaboration with Hip Hop and Afro Pop artists such as Jericho, Monique and D jay on his upcoming album. “I am determined to make a quality and a worthy contribution on the music and film industry, and all my music videos are on YouTube,” he says.
