Libertine Amathila sport tourney set for Omaheke 

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare will host the 2024 Dr Libertine Amathila Sport Tournament at Motsomi Primary School in Corridor 13, Omaheke region, from 2 to 6 December. 

This annual tournament unites youth from Namibia’s marginalised communities to celebrate talent, diversity and community pride through the universal language of sport. 

The event will feature over 368 participants from 10 regions across Namibia, including Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omaheke, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi. 

Footbal l and netbal l competitions will provide young athletes with a platform to showcase their talents, and potentially be scouted for national teams. 

The tournament is named in honour of Amathila, a dedicated advocate for marginalised communities and former deputy prime minister. 

It also promotes cultural exchange and celebrates the unique richness of each host region. 

Prizes for the tournament include 

Winning team: Floating trophy, gold medals and N$10 000. 

Runner-up: silver medals and N$7 000. 

Second runner-up: bronze medals and N$5 000.
