WINDHOEK – In an effort to support road safety among taxis in Windhoek, Standard Bank Namibia has joined in the newly launched Top Taxi project. The project, facilitated by Radio Kosmos, was launched by the mayor of Windhoek,  Agnes Kafula, in Windhoek on Thursday last week.

“Standard Bank Namibia is proud to be associated with the Top Taxi project as a worthy cause in instilling road safety awareness amongst taxi drivers in order to reduce road accidents and ultimately save lives. Taxi drivers have an important role to play in our community and that is why as a bank we saw the need to get involved,” said Standard Bank Namibia’s head of marketing, Thaddius Maswahu. Standard Bank Namibia sponsored a total amount of over N$133 000 to the 9-month project.

Through the Top Taxi competition, passengers will be encouraged to nominate a responsible taxi driver of the week via sms. The lucky Top Taxi Driver of the week will be offered a Standard Bank account with N$3000 in prize money, a first aid kit worth N$500 from Namibia Medical Care and a shopping voucher from Shoprite. Other partners involved in this campaign are the Windhoek City Police and a local newspaper. Taxi driver Kauluma Paulus was excited about the campaign, saying it will help reduce unnecessary accidents on the city’s roads.

The Top Taxi campaign ends on the December 09, 2014.
