Female road cyclist Vera Looser is ready to represent Namibia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which take place from 26 July to 11 August.
The multi-sport event will feature athletes competing in 329 events across 32 sports in Paris, France, with some competitions starting on 24 July 2024.
Team Namibia will participate in cycling (road and mountain bike), marathon running and swimming.
Looser, who will be making her third appearance for Namibia at the Olympics, told Nampa on Monday that it is always an honour to represent her country, especially at the Olympic Games, where everyone is watching.
In the world of sports, it hardly gets bigger than the Olympics.
“The road race at the Olympic Games has special characteristics, with many nations only having one rider on the start line. I think my biggest advantage is that nobody knows me, and nobody expects anything from me,” she said.
Looser, who represented Namibia at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2016 and 2021 Summer Olympics, told this agency anything is possible in the Olympics race.
“This will be my third Olympics, but if I can race to my fullest potential and not make any tactical mistakes, I will be very satisfied with myself,” she said.
Looser won the National Time Trial Championships on seven occasions and the Namibian National Road Race Championships on 10 occasions, including nine years consecutively between 2014 and 2022. She is expected to join the Namibian team in Paris on 23 July, with the women’s road race scheduled for 4 August 2024.
