LPM councillor jumps onto Starlink bandwagon

KEETMANSHOOP – Keetmanshoop Rural constituency councillor Willem Labuschagne has appealed to information minister Emma Theofelus to endorse satellite broadband service provider Starlink’s application to the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran).

He made this call when he was delivering the welcoming remarks during a PowerCom groundbreaking ceremony for erecting a communication tower at Farm Howobees in the //Kharas region last week.

“Starlink is a popular service provider around the globe, including many African countries, where, in providing internet services, no underground and heavy construction will be needed,” Labuschagne said.

The councillor, who also serves on the ticket of the Landless People’s Movement, added that the public and private sectors are now more than ever moving towards the trend of e-services, including education, labour and industrialisation.

“Starlink is further operating by means of satellite reception under harsh climate and natural conditions,” he stated.

The politician urged the government to engage in advanced forms of communication technology by introducing it into the country’s education system.
