Lüderitz to host annual sport awards…federations urged to submit early

The 18th edition of the Namibia Annual Sport Awards, which was officially launched yesterday in the capital, will this year see the crème de la crème of Namibian sport battling it out for top honours at the southern town of Lüderitz.

This year’s national awards are pencilled in for 5 November at the Lüderitz Waterfront Auditorium and will see the country’s top-achieving athletes compete for prizes in over 20 categories.

Entry into the various categories opened last night and will run until 17 September 2022.

Consideration for nominations will be for the period 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022.

Speaking at yesterday’s launch, Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) chief administrator Freddy Mwiya urged federations to start in earnest with vetting potential nominees for the various categories and make sure their submissions are in line with the stipulated guidelines and timeframes.

Mwiya said it was of paramount importance for the NSC and all stakeholders involved to take this year’s awards to the southern town of Lüderitz, saying the objective has always been about taking the event to all corners of the country and not only preserving them for Windhoek.

“It’s part of our strategic plan that every town or region in the country gets an opportunity to host these prestigious awards. In line with our plan, we have in the past taken the awards to Swakopmund in the Erongo region and Ondangwa in the Oshana region,” he said.

Last year’s sponsors have again committed to sponsoring the various categories of the awards and have all committed to making the awards bigger and better.

The sponsors are led by MTC, Debmarine Namibia, Nampower, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, New Era Publication Corporation and Standard Bank Namibia.

Tickets to this year’s awards will cost N$20 000 for a table for 10 people and N$500 for individuals and federations.

Details on ticket sales will be announced in due course.
