KATIMA MULILO – Situated about 10 kilometres from Katima Mulilo at Mafuta, the orphanage and day care centre named after the settlement takes care of orphans within the area and from the surrounding villages of Musanga and Chefuzwe.
The centre is however struggling with sponsorship as the number of orphans and other vulnerable children constantly increases. Currently the centre takes care of about 50 orphans and other vulnerable children, from among the about 160 children registered at the centre. One of the caregivers at the centre, Cherio Kaka, could not hold her emotions when they received a humble donation of tinned fish from Papati Investments yesterday. “We are very happy and thankful to have received this donation because it came at the right time as we didn’t have relish,” said Kaka.
Sharon Limbo of Papati Investmens stated that it is everyone’s responsibility to assist where they can, and it is for this reason that her company made the humble donation. “As a company we have a social responsibility, and we are planning to continue assisting where we can,” she said.
Her sentiments were shared by her partner Mushohe Kumanina who called on other business personnel to play a part in poverty eradication in Zambezi Region and the country at large.
“All companies that have something, small as it may be, our responsibility is to give those who do not have,” he said.
