LUDERITZ – Henry John Meintjies, who originally hails from Mariental and is currently based in the harbour town of Luderitz, recently opened a comfortable guest house named Haus Henry, which constitutes an investment of about N$2.1 million that included the purchase price of the property as well as renovations and new equipment.
During the inauguration of his guest house on Saturday February, 21 2015, Henry explained how he came up with the idea of the business. He said he visited Luderitz for 12 years since 2001 and at times he would struggle to find accommodation in Luderitz. “Sometimes the accommodation was not very comfortable or the atmosphere was not friendly”, Henry stated.
When he moved to Luderitz last year, he heard about a property which become available, and he decided to buy it to start a guesthouse. Currently the new guesthouse provides self-catering rooms but Meintjies is planning to serve the guests with breakfast, as from the beginning of March 2015. In the near future, Henry also plans to provide lunch and dinner as he is planning on expanding his business.
During the inauguration of the Haus Henry Guesthouse, the !Nami#nus Constituency Council, Jan Scholtz, thanked Meintjies for deciding to invest in Luderitz, by establishing affordable accommodation for the people of Luderitz and Namibia at large. ”The creation of the accommodation venue is a clear testimony of the tranquil atmosphere”, said Scholtz.
He further stated that, it is the government’s intention to continue to encourage specifically local businesses, whose aims are to invest and re-invest in Luderitz and to strengthen the town and country’s economy. He also used the same platform, to encourage the residence of Luderitz to support their local businesses and not to put them down, in order for Luderitz and Namibia to develop.
