The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group has appointed Terence Makari as managing director of O&L Leisure. Makari takes over the reins from international hotelier and industry veteran, Bruce Hutchison, who tendered his resignation at the end of August and has now retired.
Terence became part of the O&L family in 2001 when he was appointed as manager of human resources for Pick n Pay Namibia – a position that was broadened with time to incorporate other retail businesses at the time, such as Windhoek Schlachterei, Lumber City, Kraatz Steel, and Rieck Joinery.
In August 2006 he joined Hangana Seafood as human capital manager for a period of two years. This was followed by his appointment as human capital manager for Namibia Breweries Limited in July 2008, a position he held till his recent appointment as deputy managing director of O&L Leisure.
Terence holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) degree from the University of Namibia; an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Hons. B.Comm) from the University of South Africa and a Master of Business Management and Administration (MBA) from the University of Stellenbosch.
Makari served as a Commissioner on the Employment Equity Commission board for the last three years, and was recently nominated and duly elected as a board member at the Namibia Employers Federation’s (NEF) AGM. With the announcement of his appointment at O&L Leisure, Makari said, “I would like to sincerely thank the O&L Group for the confidence shown in me with this appointment and I look forward to contributing towards the success of O&L Leisure, ensuring that the business delivers on the set strategic objectives that will enable the Group to achieve our Vision 2019 goals”.
O&L Group executive chairman Sven Thieme congratulated Makari on his new role and said that the O&L Group “shares joy and pride in people like Makari, who make use of the development opportunities within the Group, to grow in their careers and insodoing create opportunities for themselves and others to succeed”.
