Windhoek

Female archer Ilana Malan representing her native land at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey last month broke the Namibian record to finish 49th overall in a field of 71 top archers from around the globe.

Malan ended the competition with a score of 676 during the qualification to set a new national record in the Compound Women’s Division – erasing the old record.

The Namibian claimed her first elimination shootout in the 1/48 round but was defeated by Belgian Sahara Prieels in the 1/24 round by a score of 145 to 141.

Nevertheless, Malan’s world class showing gifted her overall 33rd place finish. Malan who was accompanied by team manager Karola Woortman, on her European safari, returned home last Saturday.
