Home National Man allegedly commits suicide during police pursuit

OSHAKATI – A 53-year-old man died on Wednesday after he allegedly shot himself at Okatana-Oshakati main road.

He was identified as Angula Dominukus, a taxi driver from Oshakati.

According to Oshana Police chief Nafatal Lungameni Sakaria, the victim was a passenger in a taxi that the police were following.

He said the victim asked the taxi driver to stop, jumped out of the taxi and shot himself in the head. He died on the spot.

According to the Sakaria, the victim was wanted by the Oshikoto police in connection with an accident, which occurred at Omuthiya last week, where he allegedly bumped a pedestrian, who sustained injuries on his knees and forehead.

He allegedly fled from the scene after the accident but was later spotted by Onembenge police.

Dominukus left the vehicle behind, and two cell phones were found in the vehicle. His footprints were followed – but because it was dark, the pursuit was stopped.

“On Wednesday, he came back to his house in Oshoopala location in Oshakati, and his relatives informed the police,” Sakaria said.

Sakaria said while one of the victim’s relatives was on the call, reporting the matter to the police, Dominukus allegedly took his gun, escaped the house and took a taxi.

In another incident, a 48-year-old man died after he was allegedly hit with a stick on the head and died on the spot.

The incident happened on Tuesday at a cuca shop in Ekokofi village in the Okongo constituency, Ohangwena region.

The victim was identified as Joseph Nghishimandakulilwa Shimuleni from Ekokofi village.

According to the Ohangwena police, the victim was fighting with a group of men, who are suspected to have hit him.

The suspected men were taken by the police for questioning.
