A 27-year-old man sustained serious injuries after he was struck by car on Saturday night following an argument with the driver.

The near fatal incident happened on Saturday around midnight at Kayirayira village on the western outskirts of Rundu.

It was reported the victim and the driver of a white Mazda Midge, bearing the registration number N1994RU, had a row. The driver then got into the car and allegedly drove recklessly and inconsiderately. After bumping the victim he drove away leaving the injured man helpless on the ground.

The victim was identified as Sakandjo Paulus Malema from Kayirayira village near Rundu.

Malema was later rushed to the Rundu state hospital by an ambulance that was summoned by residents.

The suspect in the alleged hit-and-run, known only as a certain Keya, by yesterday had not yet been arrested.

Police Chief Detective Inspector Chrispin Mubebo of the police in Kavango East Region said: “The victim is fighting for his life in the Rundu state hospital.

“We are searching for the suspect, who will be charged accordingly once we apprehend him. We are asking the community to notify the police once they see the wanted driver and the vehicle,” Mubebo said.
