RUNDU – The Namibian Police in Kavango East are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of a 44-year-old man from Divundu last Sunday, 15 June 2014 in the early evening hours, at approximately 19:08.
The accident occurred in the Divundu area in the Mukwe constituency, just opposite Hombe service station. The deceased was identified as Thighuru Diyeve and was hit by an unknown vehicle and died on the spot. According to the police, nobody witnessed the event to identify the car make or registration number. Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo of the Namibian Police in Kavango East said they are working hard to bring the culprit to book despite the challenges of not knowing the type of car or registration number of the vehicle.
Meanwhile in Kavango West, a four (4) year old boy was reported to have died on the spot right after a mahangu pounding machine fell on him.
The frightening incident occurred at Nkurenkuru town in Kavango West on Friday 13 June last week at around 10:30 am, “ When I woke up on Friday morning, I found him outside with other three children and I was told that he didn’t want to go to school. I wanted to escort him to school with a car and he still didn’t want to go, so we left him to play with the others.” Said Ndara, the father of the deceased.
He told New Era that he bought the pounding machine last year and the machine’s motor got damaged. He bought a new motor for it and that day of the incident a technician was supposed to come put it together, he said. “ That day of the incident a technician was supposed to come put it together and he asked me telephonically to check some things on the machine. After checking the machine, I decided to leave the door of the zinc structure room were the machine was kept, open since the technician was on his way and the children were playing elsewhere by then. My son entered the room unseen and the accident happened without witnesses. When my sister finished preparing tea she looked for the children and my son was not with the others, so we went looking for him and my sister found him under the machine. She screamed and I ran to try and save him but it was too late.
” We phoned my brother to come and we took him to the hospital but it was too late,” said, Augustu Ndara the father of the deceased.
It is suspected that the 4 year old boy tried to swing on the machine and it fell on him. The missing motor caused the machine to become unstable causing the machine to fell easily.
According to the police the 4 year old boy’s body was transported to the Nankudu district hospital mortuary the same day.
Back in Kavango East. The police in Rundu are looking for the gunmen that allegedly robbed the Kehemu Fresh Mini Mark, at about 22:40 Wednesday night last week just when the cashier was about to go home.
