A 41-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by her husband who later committed suicide by hanging himself last Saturday.

The incident occurred at 20h30 at Iindongo Keelu village near Omuthiya in Oshikoto Region.

It is alleged the suspect, identified as Nghilifa Paulus, 45, and his wife Tresia Awene had a heated argument at their homestead. While quarrelling, Paulus drew a panga and severely assaulted his wife all over her body.

The suspect committed suicide thereafter by hanging himself with a rope from a tree at their house. He did not leave any suicide note and an inquest docket has been opened.

The Regional Crime Coordinator of Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua, said Awene was admitted to the Omuthiya State Hospital and was later transferred to Oshakati Hospital. She is believed to be in a critical condition.

In a separate incident, a young man was stabbed to death, while two others were injured with a knife at Ekuku settlement in Okatana, near Oshakati.

Although information is still sketchy, it is believed the suspect and the deceased had a quarrel and two men came to the victim’s rescue.

However, they were stabbed as well but they survived.

The Oshana Regional Commander Rauha Amwele confirmed the incident, but said she did not have detailed information, as she was out of the office.
