A 54-year-old man was found in possession of two elephant tusks on Saturday morning at around 05h00 at Muit’jiku village during a police routine search.

“Our police members in the Divundu area got a tip-off from community members that he (the suspect) was looking for a buyer to buy the two elephant tusks and our members acted as buyers in order to buy the tusks. He took them to where he had buried the tusks and he was then apprehended.” “He is in custody now,” said Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo at the Kavango East Police Headquarters.

The suspect is expected to be brought before Rundu Magistrate’s Court this week for illegal possession of controlled wildlife products.
Muit’jiku is located in Bwabwata West National Park in Mukwe Constituency, Kavango East.
