WALVIS BAY – A man burnt to death on Sunday morning at the DRC informal settlement at the coast.

According to the Walvis Bay police the man whose details were not yet released died in a shack fire that destroyed four other shacks in the informal settlement.

Police also reported that a 16-year-old boy was accidentally electrocuted in the Omdel informal settlement of Henties Bay. The crime investigations coordinator for Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, said the accident occurred on Saturday.

In Swakopmund on Friday around lunchtime a dry riverbed in Swakopmund caught fire when sparks set dry grass on fire.

A team of TransNamib employees that were repairing rails in the vicinity caused the sparks with their equipment, resulting in the nearby grass catching fire. The fire was contained by the Swakopmund fire brigade.

The police were looking for five men that allegedly robbed a taxi driver in Walvis Bay on Saturday evening.

According to Kashuupulwa the taxi driver picked up the five men in Kuisebmond to take them to town.

On the way to town the men asked the driver to take them to the beach. The driver however was suspicious of the men and drove to Kuisebmond where he jumped out of his taxi.

He reported the matter to the police the same night.  The taxi was found on Sunday morning abandoned near the TransNamib premises.
