A 22-year-old man died a horrific death after he was beheaded with a panga in Oshikango.
The incident reportedly happened around 19h00 last Tuesday during a group fight at one of the cuca shops at Okatwitwi location.
It is alleged that the deceased, who was labelled a troublemaker at the location, was invited to a fight by one of his friends, an Angolan citizen.
The owner of the bar where the fight took place allegedly tried to intervene by attempting to stop the fight, but Tobias Victor Lucas Hafeleni, now deceased, apparently pepper-sprayed the bar owner in the face.
One of the owner’s relatives tried to come to his aid, but he too fell victim to Hafeleni’s pepper spray. Hafeleni and his group then fled from the scene.
The bar owner, identified as Herman Silas Aludhilu, then followed Hefaleni armed with a panga. He soon caught up with him in the location, New Era was informed.
The two started to wrestle and in the process Aludhilu drew out the panga and slashed Hafeleni on the left-hand side of his neck, leaving his head hanging merely by the skin.
Ohangwena police spokesperson Sergeant Kaume Itumba said Hafeleni and his group have a history of troubled relations with the people of Okatwitwi and that Hafeleni was previously also banned from entering Aludhilu’s cucashop.
Aludhilu, who is originally from Ombome village of Onesi Constituency in Omusati Region, has since been arrested. He appeared in Oshikango Magistrate’s Court last week, where he was denied bail.
The late Hafeleni was from Okatope village in Ohangwena Region. Police investigations into the matter continue.
