Mbumba to meet China’s Xi

Mbumba to meet China’s Xi

President Nangolo Mbumba will jet off to China today to participate in the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (Focac).

On the forum’s margins, Mbumba will hold a courtesy meeting with China’s president, Xi Jinping.

“Namibia’s participation in the Focac has proven beneficial, as it has received support in the development of various infrastructure projects such as roads, schools, and capacity-building training, among others,” stated the Presidency.

The forum is scheduled to take place in Beijing from 4 to 6 September.

The Focac is an official forum between China and most African countries, as well as the African Union. It will, among others, avail opportunities for Chinese companies to invest in several sectors.

Namibia’s ambassador to China, George Elia Kaiyamo, told New Era that Namibia continues to benefit greatly from participation in summits such as the Focac.

“Namibia’s trade has increased in terms of our students studying here and in terms of mining cooperation so that we build a shared prosperity and future for all our people,” stated the diplomat.

The director general of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze, told this publication yesterday that Namibia is benefiting from the Focac support through bilateral cooperation.

He said the country benefitted from the Focac commitments made in 2021 and agreements of projects, including the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) new road project (Phase 2B).

Kandjoze indicated that proposed projects under discussion between Namibia and China to benefit from the bilateral cooperation include the construction of police houses in Windhoek, comprising 1 500 units.
