WINDHOEK – Meatco took top honours as Namibian Exporter of the Year at the National Quality Awards gala event that took place on October 17 at the Safari Court Hotel.

The winner in this category has made significant progress in commencing with or expanding exports to wider markets by introducing quality standards.

The National Quality Awards programme was launched in September last year, which means Meatco is the first winner of this award.

The National Quality Awards embraces quality and standards as necessary tools for value addition to products and services. The winners in the different categories will represent Namibia in the annual SADC quality awards competition scheduled for March 2014 in Gaborone, Botswana. The aim of the SADC awards is to recognize and appreciate organizations and individuals who are contributing to quality advancement in all sectors of SADC, by having measurement and quality systems, procedures and processes that are in line with local, regional and international practices and who use quality advancement to support national and regional economic development and growth.

Meatco is a pioneer in quality standards compliance in Namibia and is one of the first companies to get a certification for international standards such as ISO 9001 and HACCP.

Rosa Katjivena, Meatco’s Executive of Quality Assurance said: “Meatco’s product is of the best quality there can be. We have an integrated food safety management system that complies with international standards and markets. We are constantly improving and looking at other relevant standards of the times.”
