Mercedes AMG C63 eliminates turbo lag

The new Mercedes AMG C63 S e-performance, unveiled at the M&Z Motors Windhoek dealership last week, now offers 580kw of power and 1000Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre C63 is powered by the world’s most powerful four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which is paired with an electric motor.

A 6.1kWh battery pack not only provides an additional boost of power, but also allows an electric-only range of 13km. The combined output of the electric motor, along with the 2.0-litre, four-pot petrol engine, produces 1 020Nm. Woema was granted exclusive access at the unveiling to see the hand-assembled engine that sends power and torque primarily to the rear wheels via a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The C63 S e-performance has a small electric motor that keeps the turbo spinning, ready to instantly deliver peak boost pressure at all times and effectively eliminating turbo lag.

Overall, the C63 has received a massive revamp in almost every department, including mechanicals, design, interior and features.
