WINDHOEK – So far 977 164 people have registered as voters with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN). The figure includes 974 545 registered in the country and the 2 619 people registered in other countries around the world.
The voter registration period ends on March 2. Besides Khomas Region, the most voters were registered in Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Oshana, Erongo and the Kavango East and West.
“The ECN is satisfied with the number of eligible Namibians registered to date,” said the Director of the ECN, Professor Paul Isaak.
The 2 619 registered voters outside Namibia are registered in 29 different countries, with South Africa having the largest number at 1 329. Zimbabwe, Russia, Malaysia, and China are some of the other countries with more than 120 Namibians who have registered to vote.
Isaak said Namibians who did not find time to register when the registration of voters ends this Sunday,
would have time to vote in the supplementary registration period that will precede the presidential and National Assembly elections in November this year. The date for the supplementary registration period will be announced at a later stage, the ECN said.
