WINDHOEK – The Minister of Information and Communication Technology Joël Kaapanda has welcomed the recently launched Kundana newspaper, the first Namibian news publication to have its news content entirely in an indigenous Namibian language.
Kundana, whose language medium is Oshindonga and Oshikwanyama dialects was launched two weeks ago by New Era Publication Corporation (NEPC) at a high-profile event in Ongwediva.
During the presentation of the first copy of Kundana to the information minister which hit the streets two weeks ago, Kaapanda said the idea was long overdue and commended the New Era management for a job well done. Adding that this is a clear indication that NEPC is growing, “spreading news through the Land of the Brave”.
“This new version in Oshiwambo was really necessary and will make a great impact in educating and informing the larger population who are unable to read English, Afrikaans or German,” noted the information minister.
Kaapanda noted that an informed nation is an educated nation and the nation can only be educated through reading.
“Kundana can fulfil this mission,” he said.
He further said that NEPC has taken a bold step by embarking on another paper and he was very confident that the paper would be a great success.
“Keep Kundana on the street as long as possible, my ministry will do whatever possible to support this great idea,” he emphasised.
