Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement, Peter Tsheehama, yesterday declined to comment on recent allegations made against the ministry’s top official in the Omaheke Region, Erastus Nghishoono.

Tsheehama only confirmed that an investigation concerning the matter is underway, and that as soon as the investigation is completed the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement will make all the facts known.

“Since you have already written the story, I am not going to comment. Please respect my decision not to comment at this stage,” Tsheehama added.

Before New Era published the series of articles on alleged abuses in the Resettlement programme in Omaheke, the newspaper tried unsuccessfully on numerous occasions to contact Tsheehama for comment.

Meanwhile, New Era has independently learned from sources in Gobabis that Director of Land Reform, Harry Tjipueja, and a group of officials are being dispatched to the town to investigate the matter.

People in the region have made serious allegations against the Ministry of Lands’ boss in Omaheke in connection with a number of irregularities. This includes complaints made against Nghishoono by Ben Aluendo Enghali, also known as Shinime, and his brother Josef Enkali.

A dispute arose between the two brothers and Nghishoono after the Lands official suddenly and without warning tried to evict them from his resettlement farm, Schellenberg No.??????’??
