RUNDU – The Swapo Party extraordinary regional conference for Kavango West at Nkurenkuru on Monday nominated two candidates and four delegates for the Swapo Party electoral college.

The two candidates who could likely be nominated by Swapo members to stand as parliamentarians are Kletus Karondo an education inspector and Marina Kandumbu, a chief education officer of the Planning Division in the Ministry of Education, stationed in Rundu.

Both candidates serve on the committee for information, publicity, mobilizing and voters’ education in Kavango West.

Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku, Maria Ntusi who is regional secretary for Swapo Party Women’s Council (SPWC), Sakeus Kudumo, who is the Musese district mobilizer and Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary for Kavango West, Lukas Nyumbu, were  nominated as delegates.

In Kavango East, the Swapo Party extraordinary regional conference took place on Friday and nominated former Kavango regional governor Sebastian Karupu who is the executive deputy director at State House, and the Otjozondjupa Region director of education, Faustina Kalei, as its candidates.

The Swapo Party district coordinator for Ndiyona Constituency, Marceline Kahare, regional mobilizer for the SPWC Elina Diparu, Peter Kashumali the secretary for information and publicity for Kavango East and Erick Tjandja who is the regional mobilizer for Kavango East were nominated as delegates.

Both Kavango West and Kavango East extraordinary regional conferences were monitored and officiated over by the chairperson of the national leaders assigned to both two regions, Marco Hausiku, who is the deputy prime minister.

“This year we are busy with quite difficult elections. We have many tasks. The one task that we have is to explain to people, to make our people understand, that our president is going to retire. The second task is to explain that Comrade Hage Geingob is our presidential candidate and the third task is that we are going through a process of leadership transition, which is very important and we need to manage it careful. We need to behave ourselves, we need to do our job very efficiently,” said Hausiku. Hausiku implored Swapo campaign managers to ensure they have all the election materials ready when they hit the campaign trail. He said they should use campaign materials that are prepared by the party as they were very carefully chosen in terms of party policy, party colours and the constitution.
