SWAKOPMUND – A Henties Bay man allegedly attempted to rape a mother and later raped her daughter after accommodating them in his home.
Police stated the incident occurred on Sunday morning in the Omdel location, Henties Bay. A Namibian adult male (43) has been arrested. He is expected to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Acting spokesperson for the Namibian Police at Walvis Bay, Tuyenikelao Tashiya told the media yesterday that the woman and her daughter (8) visited the suspect, who is a friend, on Saturday and slept over at his house.
“The mother allegedly woke up after realising that she was being undressed by the suspect without her consent. The suspect allegedly apologised, and they all went back to sleep,” she said.
New Era understands that the victims and the suspect were all sleeping in the suspect’s room. The mother and daughter were allegedly sleeping on the bed while the suspect was sleeping on a mattress next to the bed. Tashiya further explained that the mother, the next morning, to her horror found the suspect on top of her daughter. She then reported the matter to the police, and the suspect was arrested.
In another incident, the police are looking for three men who allegedly raped another man at the Karibib roadblock site last week. According to the police, the victim was accompanied by his two coworkers to the roadblock to look for transport.
His coworkers allegedly went back, leaving him alone still looking for a lift when the three unknown men approached him.
“The men allegedly manhandled and beat him up. They then forced him to remove his trousers and raped him,” police said.
According to the police, the suspects also robbed the victim of his Samsung smartphone, a recharge voucher and his wallet containing N$300.
The suspects then allegedly fled under the cover of darkness. No arrests have been made, and the police are now cautioning residents not to walk or visit isolated places during late hours.
