Agnes Basilia Tjongarero was born on May 17, 1946.

Legislative Profile
She is currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service. Since 2010 she has been a Member of the National Assembly. She is also a former vice chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. She also served on the Standing Committee on Rules and Orders, Human Resources, Social and Community Development and that of Information Communication and Technology. She was also a member of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), as well as the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs.

Education
She qualified in General Nursing from 1968 to 1970, as well as in Midwifery from 1971-1972. She has a Bachelor of Nursing degree, majoring in Nursing Management and Community Health Care and she has a Diploma in Nursing Education that she acquired from 1974-1975. She has a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree, that she obtained between 1991-1993.

Career
She is a former district coordinator of Windhoek-East District for the ruling party, a member of Swapo Party Women’s Council, president of the Namibia National Olympic Committee, former vice-chairperson of Namibia Sports Commission, former director of the South Health Region, which includes //Karas, Hardap, Khomas and Omaheke. She is also a former director of Nursing Services, a former lecturer at the Nursing College and a former president of the All Namibia Netball Association from 1993 to 1997.
