…exciting racing in the wild
OTJIWARONGO – The maiden edition of the MTB Family Spring Festival, sponsored by Build It Otjiwarongo and Ohorongo Cement in conjunction with Otjiwa Safari Lodge, was held at the beautiful eye catching Otjiwa Safari Lodge near Otjiwarongo last weekend.
The race was open to all interested parties to enter with specific time qualifying requirements and attracted more than 70 entries, exceeding expectations by far, considering the large number of high profile events that took place all over Namibia during the same weekend. The day kicked off with a Kiddies Fun Ride on Saturday morning, followed by a 15km Night Ride that had participants raving non-stop about the amount of game they encountered during the night ride that almost led to a few unexpected collisions with the game, luckily with no injuries recorded. The eagerly awaited 30km and 60km races were also held on Saturday accompanied by a bright sunshiny day with no cloud cover and to top it off, a strong breeze picked up, certainly not making it any easier for the participants.
The overall winners were as follows:
30km Ladies
1. Ilani Avis (01:30:53)
2. Andra Van Staden
