WINDHOEK – Namibia Football Association (NFA) President John Muinjo has been bestowed the honour of commissioning the international friendly between South Africa and Brazil on 5 March at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

As match commissioner, Muinjo will be heading a delegation of match officials from Angola which includes referee Muachihuissa Antonio Caxala, who will be assisted by compatriots Santos Jerson Emiliano Dos, Lemos Julio Goncalves da Silva and Baltazar Romualdo do Rosario as the fourth official.

According to renowned former referee and now NFA national referees instructor Edwardt ‘Boy-Boy’ Ndjadhila, Muinjo’s trip is an indication that Namibians are valued amongst the best in the world.

“John was a top referee during his time and is very experienced, so obviously all those values will come in handy when he oversees proceedings in the Bafana vs Brazil international friendly,” says Ndjadhila.

Ndjadhila further explained the magnitude of the friendly match: “Brazil is one of the best footballing nations and this game will have so much interest worldwide. Remember Brazil will host the upcoming FIFA World Cup in three months’ time, so it is important that they do well and having a competent team of match officials led by Muinjo will add to that great atmosphere. It is really a great honour for Namibia to have John over there,”  he said.

The South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reports that the match will be part of South Africa’s 20-year celebrations of a democratic government.

The SABC added that the celebrations to be held at the FNB Stadium will also mark the official handover of the baton from the 2010 World Cup hosts  to this year’s hosts Brazil. The two countries will also unveil their new kits.

In another friendly, Namibia’s Brave Warriors is set to face Tanzania on Wednesday, 5 March in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. The Warriors full squad will be announced later this week by coach Ricardo Mannetti.
