The Namibian Police Force recorded three murders, two attempted murders and three suicides in different regions between Friday and Sunday. 

The latest murder incident was reported in the Kavango West region. 

At Mamono village on Sunday evening, a suspect allegedly stabbed Philip Lirunga (59) with a traditional knife on the left arm and on his back, inflicting serious injuries that resulted in his death while being rushed to the Mpora clinic. 

The victim’s next of kin were informed, and the suspect is yet to be arrested.

Another murder case was reported in Khomas on Saturday at Havana near the four-way stop. Just after midnight, while members of Wanaheda operations were attending to a robbery complaint near Kambaka bar, a scream was heard nearby. 

Then, a taxi driver approached officers, and alerted them about someone being robbed at the four-way stop. 

“The members quickly rushed there – and upon arrival, a man was found lying down but bleeding from the nose. The municipal ambulance was alerted – and upon arrival at around 2h00, it declared the man dead. The deceased is unknown at this stage. No arrest were made, and police investigation continues,’’ the weekend crime report stated. 

In Erongo, a case of murder was opened after the body of an unidentified male adult was discovered along a pathway. 

“The deceased was wearing a light grey jean trouser and black pullover. He was found with multiple stab wounds. A stone with blood was also found at the scene, suspected to be used in the assault on the deceased,’’ the police report reads. 

The suspect(s) are not known at this stage. 

The deceased was last seen by a security guard at Hero Bar on Saturday evening.

In Keetmanshoop, a case of murder was reported on Thursday at approximately 01h00 at the Ten-Ten Bar, Ileni location. 

It is alleged the victim went to Ten-Ten Bar, where he asked some patrons for a cigarette. 

After this, an argument ensued, resulting in the victim being stabbed twice. 

A police vehicle transported the victim to hospital. The suspect was arrested, and investigations continue. 

At Eenhana in the Ohangwena region, a case of suicide was recorded on Saturday at about 05h00 at Ombili location, where the body of Junias Shifeleni (27) was found hanging from a tree. 

No suicide note was left behind.

Another suicide was reported at Otavi in the Otjozondjupa region on Saturday at about 21h00 at farm Klein Otavi. 

The body of Gert Alwayn van der Linde (28) was found hanging on a rope from the ceiling roof in his room.

The police said no suicide note was found at the scene, and the next of kin were informed.

At Ondangwa, another case of suicide was reported on Friday at about 10h00 at the Ongenga-Okatyali cattle post, where the body of 53-year-old Petrus Sheimange was found hanging from a tree. 

“The deceased was a cattle herder, and was last seen alive at 4h00 the same day. No suicide note was found, and no foul play is suspected. The next of kin are informed,’’ the police stated.

Meanwhile, in Kavango West, a 39-year-old man identified as Joseph Haingura Kanyetu allegedly committed suicide at Sikali village by drinking acid water from a car battery. 

The incident took place after he was called in for interrogation by the headman and elders of Singuruve village for allegedly impregnating his 27-year-old niece.
