Kuisebmond resident Shipiki Erickson, 19, was refused bail yesterday when he made his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

Erickson, who was arrested over the weekend stands accused of murdering the 32-year-old Timotheus Kauna Matiti early on Saturday morning in Kuisebmond.

It is alleged Erickson hit Matiti on the head with a brick behind the popular Vilakazi Bar. Matiti is said to have died on the spot. It is alleged the two had a confrontation behind the bar, which resulted in the suspect fatally hitting the deceased.

Erickson was arrested at Walvis Bay hospital while seeking treatment as he sustained injuries during the confrontation.

The Erongo police are also investigating the death of 60-year-old Petrus Johannes in Karibib. He was found dead in Usab location in the town on Saturday morning. According to the police, Johannes who was accompanied by his girlfriend went drinking and later returned to the girlfriend’s house to sleep.

He apparently woke up around 04h00 to relieve himself outside but he never returned.
His body was later discovered by a passer-by who alerted the girlfriend and the police.
