LUDERITZ– Elia Nakuta (23) and Simson Philipus (23) are two young men here who are determined to make it in the music industry.
Their genre is mainly RnB and Hip-Hop. It all started in January 2012 after school, when the duo failed their Grade 10. It started as a dream since they were school mates who used to listen to music a lot. Life after school was difficult for them, and since they were music fans they wanted to make it big, but due to a lack of financial assistance the duo decided to take up jobs in the security area, for them to gather up funds to start up their music career. It has been a tough road, especially due to the fact that they did not know of any music producer here. Luckily they received assistance from their church, whereby they would perform their own songs with other artists’ background instrumentals. They finally met a producer who was willing to assist them in producing their songs and music videos. He produced three songs for them, the first one was and still is a hit in the whole of //Kharas region.
After two months they paid him to produce two more songs and a music video but to their disappointment, they did not receive back their songs or their video as apparently the producer’s camera was stolen in the middle of last year. There was not back up of either their songs or video. After this disappointment, they did not know what to do, thus they took the risk of purchasing a laptop from a local store on someone’s account, since they could not take anything on account. They used their newly purchased laptop to surf the net in search of tutorial videos on how to produce their own music. “I used the internet day and night. I was always on You Tube checking out hundreds of tutorial videos about making beats, mastering , recording and searching for the best music software I could possibly get”, says Elia.
They ended up losing both their security jobs and were unable to pay for their newly purchased laptop, so the store took the laptop back and they were back to square one. They then managed to purchase a second-hand laptop, which they use until now. Elia recalls that it took him about two years to be perfect in beats- making and mastering, that is when they started their own record label at the end of 2013, known as King Kids Studio Music Production. They started recording and mastering their own songs. “We have more than one album, which is just lying at home, because we are still looking for financial assistance to release more songs and music videos”, explains they.
The duo group have been facing a lot of obstacles, but that has not kept them down or discouraged them from doing what they love. Finding a manager has been equally very difficult since Luderitz does not really have a lot of music managers. Apart from that the group is looking for financial assistance in releasing their songs and music videos. Thus sponsorships and any assistance is welcome.
