Mutota urges Namibians to be socially responsible

It is about time that Namibians take charge of the well-being of children and ensure that they are well taken care of in terms of education and other key needs, said motivational speaker Christmas Mutota.

Affectionately known as Dr Mutota for his aspirations to become a medical doctor, the six-year-old frequently shares insights on the importance of resilience and determination.

“Today, one in 10 children and young people are separated from their families, abandoned and forced to live in abusive environments,” said the second-grader at Dr Rita Johnson Private School.

Mutota added that it is crucial for children to grow with the necessary support and be prepared for the future, a critical case that can shape the Namibian child to do better in life.

“I believe that we all have a social responsibility to make sure that the future of the Namibian child is well looked after and, therefore, it starts with you, me, and everyone else. We need to support the Namibian child by providing quality education,” he said while addressing attendees at the SOS Children’s Village gala dinner.

He said children need to be nurtured, as this act of kindness can change their lives.

“Children are the future leaders, teachers, doctors and many more. I am your future doctor or possibly your future president, so my future matters. It is the primary responsibility of my parents to take care of me, but it is equally your responsibility to help me in other aspects of life,” said the eloquent speaker.

He said this generation of young Namibians will thrive when it is well-prepared, and progress when well-directed, and “My generation will lead you when we are well taken care of, so support us now and we will take good care of you,” he said.
