By William Mbangula ONYUULAYE A strange ‘disease’ appears to have affected many learners at a school here where they are itching and scratching their bodies without any hope of a remedy. Onyuulaye Combined School Head of Department Abisai Amashisha told New Era that the strange ‘disease’ was first detected on Tuesday, July 18 after 24 girls were affected. By Thursday, July 20 more than 50 learners were claiming to be affected. They were first taken to the nearby clinic and later to Onandjokwe hospital. Amashisha said the situation did not improve after visiting the hospital. “It is the first time something like this is happening at our school but we have heard it before happening at other schools,” he told New Era. He said even the health inspector visited the school and took some blood samples for testing. Onyuulaye Combined School is located in Okankolo constituency in the Oshikoto Region. The majority of Onyuulaye residents are members of the San community. The councillor for Okankolo constituency Joseph Iimbili has confirmed the incident which he said is still under investigation. A similar situation was recently reported at Omhanda Combined School in the Ohangwena Region.
