Nainda warns police against misconduct

OSHAKATI – Namibian Police Force (NamPol) acting Inspector General Major General Anne-Marie Nainda has warned newly graduated police officers against misconduct and inappropriate behaviour, both in public and on social media, saying such actions tarnish the police force’s image.

“I need to underscore that you should wear the Namibian badge with respect and a sense of pride at all times.

Desist from posting and behaving inappropriately, in-person and on social media. Remember, you are on duty 24hours/7 days a week,” Nainda said during the graduation ceremony of the Police Basic Training Course for the 2025/2026 financial year at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Friday.

She reminded the graduates that the completion of training marks the beginning of a more demanding phase in policing.

“Completion of training does not signify mastery. It signifies readiness to learn in a far more complex and demanding environment, and the real test begins now,” she said.

Nainda stressed the importance of self-discipline and integrity, saying officers must remain professional even under pressure.

“You will be tested under pressure. You will encounter temptations, criticisms, and danger. In those moments, remember your oath.

Remain professional when provoked. Remain disciplined when challenged. Remain lawful when exercising authority. Remain loyal to the Constitution and the Republic of Namibia. A good officer enforces the law.

However, a great officer inspires confidence in the law,” she said.
Speaking at the same event, Oshana governor Hofni Iipinge urged the new police officers to serve Namibians with fairness, integrity and accountability.

“As you step forward into this critical role, remember that the uniform you wear is a symbol of trust, integrity and accountability.

The communities you serve will look to you not only for protection, but for fairness, compassion, and leadership,” said Iipinge.

The governor also highlighted the importance of peace and security in national development, saying the Oshana Region remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening law and order.

“Our region remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote law and order, community safety, and development.

We believe that a secure environment is the foundation upon which economic growth and social well-being are built,” Iipinge said.
