Nakathila refuses to quit … eyes 2 to 3 fights

Namibian boxer Jeremiah Nakathila has dismissed reports suggesting his career is over.

He said he is still open to stepping back into the ring for two to three more bouts if the right opportunities arise.

The 36-year-old, nicknamed ‘Low-key’, was responding to remarks made by his promoter over the weekend, suggesting that his time in professional boxing had come to an end. Nakathila, however, made it clear that no formal discussions about retirement had taken place.

“We didn’t discuss it officially. It’s something that crossed my mind, but there has been no final decision,” he said.

Nakathila emphasised that boxing remains a business, and like any professional, he will consider credible offers before making a definitive call on his future.

“If you look at my ranking and the fact that my visa is valid until 2029, I’m still in a position to fight. I had an injury, but I’ve fully recovered. There are people requesting fights, so nothing is official yet. I’m still looking at two to three fights,” he added.

The experienced campaigner also hinted that financial viability and competitive relevance will determine his next move.

He noted that fighters without proper documentation often struggle to secure bouts internationally.

“I will look at the offers that come in. I still have a good record, and that counts for something,” he said.

Nakathila addressed speculation around a potential bout with fellow Namibian boxer Flame Nangolo, dismissing it as impractical under current conditions.

“That fight doesn’t make sense for me. I’m not in the super featherweight division, and I won’t be able to make that weight. If Nangolo wants to move up to my division, then we can talk lightweight or super lightweight,” he stated.

With a professional record of 31 fights, 26 wins and five losses, Nakathila has shared the ring with some of the sport’s top names, including Shakur Stevenson, Raymond Muratalla and Abdullah Mason.

As speculation around his future continues, Nakathila’s message remains clear: retirement is not yet official, and the door to the ring is still open at least for a few more fights.
