India and Namibia continue to enjoy cordial relations in all spheres since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Indian High Commissioner to Namibia Kumar Tahin said on Tuesday.

Tahin said this during a gala dinner held to celebrate India’s 67th Republic Day at a Windhoek hotel.
“India and Namibia continue to enjoy very friendly and strong relations. It is a relationship marked by trust and mutual understanding,” he said.

He added that the recent visit by President Hage Geingob to India helped to lay a strong foundation by strengthening bilateral cooperation in all spheres of cooperation: “Such high level interactions between the two countries are expected to further intensify in future.”

The Indian High Commissioner went on to convey his sincere appreciation and also to thank the Namibian government – singling out the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation – for their continued support and assistance.

Among those who attended the celebration was Minister of Poverty Eradication Bishop Zephania Kameeta, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Peya Mushelenga, ambassadors and high commissioners, permanent secretaries, chiefs of Namibia’s Armed Forces, senior government officials and Indian citizens resident in Namibia .

India, which is home to one seventh of the world’s population, is also home to third largest pool of scientists and engineers in the world today. India is the world’s largest sourcing destination for the information technology (IT) industry, accounting for approximately 67 percent of the US$124 – 130 billion market.

India’s economy is now the third largest in the world on PPP (purchasing power parity) basis. With an estimated growth rate of 7.3 percent this year, India is poised to become the fastest growing economy.
