As the weekend for the ceremony of Namibia’s largest music awards, May 6 and 7 beckons, the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) is set to announce the 2016 nominees on Wednesday this week.

The announcement will take place at NICE Restaurant when the NAMAs organisers will also reveal the names of all the sponsors for the 2016 event as well as the hosting town for the 6th edition.

Musicians, promoters, producers and entertainment journalists whose work has enriched the lives of Namibian music lovers and listeners over the last 12 months are set to be announced at a spectacular nomination launch show.

Following an unforgettable musical year that saw the launch of new stars, the announcement of the nominees is once again set to be filled with the country’s top talents. Hits of many artists that kept music lovers thrilled last year and part of this year will be contesting the enviable Song of the Year, as well as the Best Male and Female Artist of the Year 2016.

The 2016 NAMAs has introduced a coveted trophy to the awards ceremony. Winners in each respective categories will receive N$30 000 while N$100 000 is set aside for the Male and Female Artist of the Year.

The awards have also introduced a New Pan-African category to celebrate African musical excellence by honouring musicians from across the continent who made it onto the Namibian musical scene, hence contributing to musical offerings on Namibian shores.

“We are excited about the nomination launch. We want to give all our partners due recognition and have therefore invited all of them to come and announce their sponsorships. Also invited are all the participating artists. We implore them to come alone because of space constraints at the venue,” says NAMAs Committee Executive Chairperson Tim Ekandjo

Nominees will be announced in the following 34 categories
(1) Best Afrikaans, (2)Best Damara Punch, (3) Best Oviritje, (4) Best Shambo, (5) Best Soukous/Kwasa, (6) Best Afro Pop, (7) Best Gospel, (8) Best Kwaito, (9) Best R&B, (10) Best Rap/Hip Hop, (11) Best House, (12) Best Reggae, (13) Best Kizomba, (14) Best Acapella, (15) Best Traditional, (16) Best Collaboration, (17) Best Single, (18) Best Music Video, (19) Most Socially Responsible Artist of the Year, (20) Song of the Year, (21) Best Live Performance, (22) Best Musical Event of the Year, (23) Entertainment Journalist of the Year, (24) Radio DJ of the Year, (25) Pan African Artist of the Year, (26) Best Album, (27) Best Newcomer, (28) Best Group/Duo, (29) Best Producer, (30) Radio Song of the Year, (31) Best Song with Message, (32) Most Disciplined Artist of the Year, (33) Best Male and (34) Best Female Artist of the Year

The only categories for which no nominees will be announced are the NAMAs Special Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, as these two categories are at the discretion of the NAMAs.
