WINDHOEK – Namibia’s U-18 Fistball team will open their assault in the U-18 Fistball World Cup underway in Pomerade, Brazil, against Germany today.

Andreas Minz’s charges will also come up against hosts Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland and Austria in the preliminary round of the tourney later today and tomorrow. Depending where the team finishes upon completion of the preliminaries, it will be playing for a final position and according to Minz, the ultimate aim is to finish in overall 5th position in a tournament where they are considered rank outsiders against fistball powerhouses Germany, Switzerland Austria and Brazil.

However, the Namibians stand a good chance against fellow minnows Chile and Argentina with coach Minz having prepared the team well ahead of the global tournament. The majority of the squad members  competed in the European championship in July last year, where Namibia also participated in a training camp afterwards.

Minz held several practice camps in the last couple of months. More information on the team and the results are available on the website of the Fistball Association of Namibia at www.fistballnamibia.org.
